Karkala: Illegal Liquor Seized, Four Arrested

Karkala, Dec 31: On Wednesday December 29 night, the policemen arrested two persons from near Anekere here. They allegedly were transporting liquor with the specific intention of selling it at a higher price, as liquor ban is in force because of the zilla and taluk panchayat elections. They have been identified as Suresh (37) from Nitte village, and Kumar (28) from Havanje Shediguri near Udupi. The motor bike they were riding and liquor worth Rs 40,000 were confiscated from their possession.

In another incident, the excise police raided a house in Nelligudde in Miyyar village, and seized liquor valued at around Rs 5,500, stored inside the house. They arrested Gerald D’Souza (46) in this connection.

Reportedly, 22.5 litres of liquor and 17.16 litres of beer were recovered from the said house.
