Udupi, Jan 1: “The sphere of education is undergoing commercialization due to competitiveness and moral value-based education is going into oblivion,” said Laxminarayan Asranna, chief priest, Durgaparameshwari Temple, Kateel.
He was speaking at the 38th annual day celebrations of Ganapati School Alumni Association, Padubidri, near here, on Thursday December 30.
“Children were exploring other means of sustaining the families a few decades ago, but the trend has changed now where society lays importance on education. Children need study based on moral values
in the primary stages itself which will instill in them virtues in their early childhood,” he said.
Asranna urged the correspondents of the school to lay emphasis on value-based education along with curriculum.
Dr Gananath Yekkar of Mangalore University presided over the programme.
‘Vijaya Kalavidaru’ drama troupe chairman Sharat Shetty, SBVP School secretary C R Navada, alumni association director K Anantapattabi Rao, Ganapati High School headmaster C V Manjappa, SBVP Higher Primary School head teacher Rohinibai, alumni association president Savita R, and secretary Kasturi Ramachandra were present on the dais.
Indian Armed Forces soldier Santosh S Kotian and stage artiste Bhaskar Acharya were felicitated on the occasion.
Tulu comedy play ‘Bajel Babu’ was staged along with a comedy circus and dances as part of the entertainment programme.
