By P A Hameed Padubidri

Dammam, Jan 1: NGC Jubail pulled off the glittering “JF Super Cup-2010” by squashing Blue stars-Dammam by 9 runs in the knockout Cricket Tournament (one-day event) held at Rakah Grounds near Dhahran Exhibitions here.

The tourney was organized by Jammiyyathul Falah (JF) Dammam Unit for the noble cause of the community development & welfare programs specially education. 16 Cricket Teams-AMACO, Blue Star, NGC, Blue Lines, ICC, Crescent, KCC, Al-Anwaar, CBC, Panorama, Marcon, ACEC, Real Tech, Radicon, Asia XI, United XI-have taken participation in the tournament.

NGC opted first to bat after winning the toss. Asif and Anees got to the pitch as openers, who had, at the start itself, showed a stimulating move scoring 25 runs in 2 over. Though the fall of Anees’ wicket was thought to be a big blow to NGC, it was, however, falsified soon by Asif with his shimmering batting performance that caused the bowlers & players of Blue star to struggle fiercely all over the ground. Asif and Nawaz played outstanding innings and put on 46 runs for the 2nd wicket. Finally, they were able to gain notable scores of 77 in allotted 6 overs.

For NGC:
Asif not out – 39 (4 sixes)
Anees – 20 (2 sixes)
Nawaz not out – 13

The takeoff by Blue-stars in order to chase the target was tough initially itself. Its Openers Hyder (captain) and Javed lost their wickets in the first over of Naushad’s ball. Blue-stars lost their 3rd wicket when the score was still 9. However, left-hander Rizlan and all-rounder Iqbal made a superb push in this crucial juncture, which enabled them to get reenergized in their hope.  They gained 40 at 3rd over. Rizlan's wicket-fall gave a big strike to Blue stars and then it also lost the wicket of Irfan. Then, Anwar and Iqbal have demonstrated their vibrant playoffs that made NGC bowlers to wobble severely at one point. Their excellent performance moved the score sheet to 62/5 in 5th over. In the final over, Blue stars required 15 runs, but striking bowling of Haneef and fully ground-controlled fielding by NGC resulted in their fall. They were able to get 68/8 in allotted 6 overs. NGC defeated Blue stars by 9 runs.

For blue stars:
Iqbal – 20 (3 sixes)
Anwar – 19
Rizlan – 14

The excellent bowling performance by Naushad of NGC took 3/26 wickets. Asif of NGC came out to be "Man of the Match" award for his amazing batting. He was also awarded with "Man of the Tournament" for his brilliant batting and bowling performance throughout the tournament. Asif had been awarded too with "Magical Moment of the Tournament" for hitting 6 sixes in one over of Thanzeel -bowler of Amaco-in the Quarter final match.

The play-off’s best performances were:

NIYAZ of AMACO – Best Batsman.
QAYYUM of Blue Line – Best Bowler

Prior to this final playoff, a first semi-final was played between Blue Stars Vs Blue Line (Jubail). Blue Line chose to bat first and made 44/9 in allotted 5 overs. Rizlan, Rifdan and Ashraf took 2 wickets each. In return, Blue Stars were able chase the target in the 5th over. They made 50/2.  Javed (20) and Hyder (11).

Second semi-final was played between NGC (Jubail) Vs CRESCENT Cricketers. NGC Opener Anees and Asif played luminously and put on 35 runs in two over. At the end, they scored 72/4 in allotted 5 overs. Asif (26), Anees (20), Naushad (17). In response, Crescent finds it difficult to score runs against the fine bowling and fielding performance by NGC as they were able to reach 43/4 in allotted 5 over.
