Mangalore: Liquor Shops in City, Ullal, to Remain Closed on Sunday

Mangalore, Jan 1: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, as per the recommendations of the city police commissioner, has ordered for the closure of liquor shops on Sunday January 2 in the interests of the general public, and also for managing law and order situation, as Hindu Samajotsava is being organized in the city.

All the shops having licences to sell liquor and centres dealing with liquor, located within the city and within the limits of Ullal municipality, have been ordered to remain closed on Sunday, under section 21(1) of Excise Act. The notification mentions that the shops dealing in liquor should remain closed from 6 am to 12 midnight on Sunday, which period will be deemed as dry day.

During this period, sale and supply of liquor in hotels, non-proprietary concerns, star hotels etc., have been banned. The excise department has been asked to apply departmental seal to the front and back doors of wine shops and bars during this period.
