Udupi, Jan 3: Founder of Alva’s group of educational institutions, Moodbidri, Dr Mohan Alva, said that those who do not have beauty consciousness fail to love anything. He therefore, urged the parents and teachers alike to make efforts to cultivate an interest in aesthetics among the children since a young age.

Alva was speaking after accepting the title, ‘Kala Sarvabhauma’, conferred on him at the prize distribution function for the state level Kannada drama competition, organized on Sunday January 2 at Muddana Ravindra Mantap of MGM College here. This programme was organized by ‘Rangabhoomi’ Udupi.

“A person having aesthetic sense loves his country and art, culture and the artists concerned. He also loves life, language, environment etc. Those who do not have this sense can grow into dangerous human beings,” he analyzed. He said that the children are told the truth while teaching maths, chemistry, biology, physics etc. He felt that the new generation is straying because of the fact that their parents and teachers have failed in their duty in telling them the truth about living life.

“The aim of none of the art forms including traditional, classical and folk, is to entertain people. These arts propose to create awareness, develop beauty consciousness and imbibe life values. Internet, mobile etc., have been invading spaces in the minds of the children, and if a child is to grow as a good human being in spite of these influences, it needs to grow aesthetics,” he felt.

Well-known litterateur, Erya Lakshminarayan Alva, presided over the programme. Divan of Paryaya Shirur Mutt, Latavya Acharya, Udupi Yuva Brahmin Parishat president, Ranjan Kalkura, donors, U Vishwanath Shenoy and Prabhakar Hegde, ‘Rangabhoomi’ honorary president, Dr H Shantaram, vice presidents, U Upendra and U Damodar, were present.

‘Rangabhoomi’ president, Tallur Shivaram Shetty welcomed. Secretary, P Vasudev Rao, presented the programme.
