Udupi, Jan 4: Kartik Saphaliga (23), a resident of Palimar, who was riding a motor bike, lost his life in a road accident that occurred at the Santoorkopla bend on the road between Padubidri and Karkala at around 4 pm on Monday January 3.

Reportedly, Saphaliga, who did not see the oncoming truck at this blind turn, tried to escape at the last moment, but failed. He lost his life on the spot. Kartik, who was coming from the direction of Karkala, had no gap left to escape from the truck, as the width of the road at this particular spot was not enough. This road, which is narrow, but traffic is heavy, is slated for widening work. Although tendering process has been completed, the work is yet to commence.

Saphaliga was the only son of Ramesh Saphaliga, who worked as a bus agent and drama artiste. He had completed his ITI training, and was unemployed. He assisted his father in running a petty shop.

A case has been registered in this connection at Padubidri police station. Kaup circle police inspector, Cheluvaraju, has taken out investigation.
