Mangalore, Jan 4: Historical novel ‘For the Love of Mandovi’, authored by Professor Dr K Mohan Pai and published by Baliga Publications will be released at Town Hall at 5.00 pm on Tuesday January 4.

The novel is a work of fiction based on facts about the struggle put up by the Konkani people in Goa in the first part of the 16th century against the conquering Portuguese.

It describes the historical relationship between Goa, the Canara district, and Cochin. Regular romantic interludes and deeds of heroism are sure to make the readers feel enthralled.

The story starts on the day Alfonso Albuquerque attacked Goa and gradually unfolds a number of hitherto unknown facts about the background of the conquest and the complicated historical facts. It tells the readers how and when political and religious leaders of the soil made mistakes, how a set of ordinary school teachers build the morale of the subjugated population and groom a small but strong batch of young students to face the ultimate challenge, how they take the migrating people out of Goa and put up
an unarmed struggle against alien forces equipped with arms and religious ambition. A touch of romance and heroism will surely attract the younger generation too.

The author of the book, Dr K Mohan Pai, a professor of medicine, has amply demonstrated his capabilities of narrating the story of his ancestors in this book. He has to his credit hundreds of articles on the subject of science, history, art, culture, and philosophy. His books have already been published in Kannada and Konkani.

the most fascinating part of this book is the style in which it is written. Since i am from Goa each city each village each bridge each river seemed to come alive during the journey of "For the love of Mandovi". We doctors undergo a lot of work stress and cannot eat our food or sleep well most of the times,in spite of this pressure Dr Mohan Pai has written this book. Kudos to the great man. The book starts from Mhall Pai , goes to tell about the procedure of conversions the various tactics adopted by the Portuguese, the resistance by the fellow Gomantak's without having their own king, everything seems to have been depicted and comes absolutely natural in front of my eyes. the destruction of the Saptakoteshwar temple, the building of the churches at that place, the gold silver diamonds being stolen, the whole picture of cowardice can steel you away from your daily routine . So i would suggest that the reader opens this book only on holidays and on full stomach with empty bowels since after starting the fiction novel it will be really difficult to leave it aside. Such is the greatness.there are some minor printing errors but that can be ignored. feel really good. it is a really worth the purchased time spent.
