Mangaluru: Over 140 buffaloes clash in Jodukare Kambala competition at Vamanjoor

Mangaluru, Feb 21: The tenth annual Kambala competitions by the Tiruvailaguthu Sukupoonja Jodukare Kambala Trust near the fields in front of Tiruvailu Amratheshwara temple concluded here on Sunday, February 21.

The event was inaugurated on Saturday. Ganesh Rao, founder president of the Karavali Group of Institutes who presided over the programme said that everybody must ensure that the Kambala sport lives and grows. "The culture passed on by our elders must always be conserved. With modernisation, we tend to drift away from nature. There is a need to balance things,” he said.

M B Puranik, president of the Sharada group of Institutes who inaugurated the programme said, " The people of Tulunadu are the ones who worship nature. The Almighty will bless us if we work with a service motive. Kambala sport which had taken a backseat for some time has started again. The issues concerning it have been resolved,” he said.

MLC Manjunath Bhandary and mayor Premananda Shetty were the guests of honour. Golidadiguthu Gurikara Vardhaman Durgaprasad Shetty Gurpura, Jagatika Bantara Sangha president Aikala Harish Shetty, Premalatha Raghu Salian, Anil Kumar, Manjunath Bhandary Moodushedde, Mohandas Shetty, Kunjappa Shetty, Chandrahasa Rai, Bhasker Subbayya Kotian, Ermal Rohith Hegde, Tiruvailaguthu Kambala committee honorary president Mithun Rai, president Navin Chandra Alva, executive president Pravin Chandra Alva, treasurer Rajkumar Shetty, chief secretary K Abhishek Alva, K Abhay Alva and others were present.

More than 140 buffaloes from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts participated in the breathtaking race.

Rajkumar Shetty welcomed. Dhanaraj Shetty Tiruvailaguthu proposed a vote of thanks. Karunaker Shetty Jeppu compered the programme.
