Bengaluru, Feb 22: The single judge bench of Justice Krishna S Dixit has quashed an appeal submitted by two Muslim girl students of Bhandrakar’s College of Arts and Science, Kundapur seeking permission to wear Hijab while attending classes.
Dismissing the plea, the bench said, "As the interim order issued by the larger bench on February 10 is in implementation and also the hearing into the Hijab issue is on, I cannot give any interim order at this stage."
The counsel the petitioners argued that the students were wearing Hijab along with the college uniform from the day that got admission into the college.
"In addition, the college also has specific rule which allows Muslim girl students to wear Hijab. However, principal and staff of the college prevented the petitioners and other Muslim girl students of the college from entering the campus for the first time with Hijab on February 3. Under the Karnataka State University Act and UGC Act except wearing indecent dress, there is no other rule pertaining to uniform," the plea argued.
