Kavita Fest 2011: “Nisarga” to Play Host to Congregation of Poets

Mangalore, Jan 6: “Nisarga”, the patio of George Castelino, at Nakre, Karkal, is all set to hold the annual Kavita Fest 2011, a get together of Konkani poets of all hues, on Sunday January 9, 2011 from 10 am to 8 pm. The fest is organized by Kavita Trust, a trust which has been set up primarily to promote Konkani poetry.

The highlight of the day long poetry festival comprises Multi lingual poetry session, youth poetry session, symposium on “why should I read poetry” , presentation of the late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues Memorial prize distribution to winners of All India Konkani poetry competition for students, presentation of Mathias Family Poetry Award 2010 to Kashinath Shamba Lolienkar, release of Stephen Quadros’s translated work “Janna Mahakavico Yashodhara Charita” and `Zagor' a Konkani folk dance by Mahesh Gavde and his Sriguru Kala Sangam troupe from Ponda, Goa.

K Narayana Kharvi, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy will be the chief guest for the inauguration ceremony and Edwin J F D Souza, Executive Director of Konkani Institute, St Aloysius College and S H Shivarudrappa, Registrar of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, will be the guests of honour. Pundalik Naik, Convenor of Konkani Advisory Board, Sahitya Academy, will be the chief guest at the concluding ceremony and Roy Castelino, President, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, will be the guest of honour.

The forenoon session of the fest include inauguration ceremony, symposium and youth poetry session. Shakunthala R Kini and Maxim Lobo will be the speakers at the symposium, which will be presided over by H M Pernal.



Wilson Kateel

Wilson Kateel will preside over the youth poetry session which will commence soon after the symposium. Venkatesh Nayak, Wilson Kinnigoli, Jossy Bajjodi, Clement Fernandes, Waseem Khangavi, Siddhi Gawas, Supriya Bhagat, Kavita Revadkar, Purushotham Verlekar, Nazmeen Baig, Akash Telgu are the young and budding poets who will present their poems at the youth poetry session.

After the lunch session there will be a multi-lingual poetry session which will be presided over by Arun Sakhardande, Sahitya Akademi award winner. The poets who will participate in this poetry session are Eddie Sequeira, Pradnya Kamath, Shivananda Shenoy, Arthur Pereira, Vasudeva Bhat, Paresh Kamat, Maya Kharangate, U A Kasim, Anisa Fatima and Raghu Idkidu.

Stage programme will follow the multi-lingual poetry session and after the stage programme, Shreeguru Kala Sangam, Ponda Goa, will present a dance drama titled “Zagor”, as part of the entertainment programme. Eric Soans, Barkur, will be the compete of the day’s programme.

The entire responsibility of organizing the programme at Nakre is shouldered by George and Reena Castelino, who are also the hosts and by Naveen Lobo, Deepak D Mello, Bonifas Sequeira and Joachim Pinto.

Kavita Trust has been conducting poetry sessions every month including the annual Kavita Fest in different parts of undivided Dakshina Kannada district and this year George Castelino and family has taken up the responsibility of hosting the annual fest at Nakre.
