Ramnathi (Goa), Jan 7 (IANS) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders Friday denounced Congress president Sonia Gandhi, saying her party was branding Hindu saints and groups as terrorists.
Speaking at the inaugural of a three-day convention here, VHP international president Ashok Singhal accused the central government of pushing Hindus to a corner.
"Sonia Gandhi is trying to paint Hindu saints in bad light and is making efforts to brand the RSS and other Hindu organisations as Hindu terrorists or saffron terrorists," Singhal told the conference.
About 250 VHP leaders are attending the meeting, which will decide when to launch a nationwide campaign for the construction of a grand Ram temple at Ayodhya.
Singhal's comments follow the arrests of several Hindu activists in connection with bomb attacks across the country that were earlier blamed on Islamists.
