Bengaluru, Feb 27: Former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who completed 79 and celebrated his 80th birthday on Sunday, was greeted at his residence by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and offered a bouquet of flowers and a shawl.
Later, he performed the Bhoomi Pooja for the construction of the Ambarish Memorial Building at Kanteera Studio in the presence of his wife and Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambarish. Revenue Minister R Ashok, former chief minister and MP D V Sadananda Gowda, film producer Rockline Venkatesh and others were also present.
Addressing a function after the Bhoomi Pooja, Bommai eulogized Ambarish and described him as a honest person like an open book with no hidden secrets and lived true to his conscience.
The Chief Minister hoped that the Ambarish memorial will become a tourist attraction and depict the life of Kannada film industry’s stalwart.
Karnataka has lost Kannada film industry’s stalwarts like Dr Raj Kumar, Vishnu Vardhan, Shankar Nag and Punith Raj Kumar, the Chief Minister said and indicated that the date of conferring the Karnataka Ratna title to Punith Raj Kumar will be announced soon.
