Daijiworld Media Network- Mangalore (SP)
Mangalore, Jan 9 : Family members of the late Wilfy Rebimbus, and United Youngsters (R), have planned to pay a rich musical tribute to the departed legend of Konkani music, Wilfy Rebimbus, on April 24, 2011 (Easter Sunday), at Town Hall here from 6.00 pm onwards.
A press release issued by United Youngsters has informed that the musical tribute will comprise theme-based songs, which will focus on Wilfy’s personality. The new songs composed by Veena Rebimbus and Vishwas Rebimbus, children of late Wilfy Rebimbus, will be rendered during the show.
Meena Rebimbus, wife of Wilfy Rebimbus, is also expected to perform in public after a long gap, to pay musical tribute to her departed husband.
Wilfy Rebimbus had passed away on March 9, 2010, after a brief illness, leaving behind his wife, son Vishwas, daughter Veena, their spouses, children, family members and thousands of fans worldwide.
Sources close to the organizers of the programme told daijiworld that the musical saga started by Wilfy Rebimbus will be continued. The immediate aim of the legendary artiste’s family as well as United Youngsters is the fulfilment of the unfinished dream of Wilfy, which is '250th Wilfy Nite'.
The 248th Wilfy Nite was performed by the group headed by Wilfy Rebimbus on October 18, 2009. Due to health problems, he was unable to perform thereafter.
Fans from around the world have been eagerly waiting for the come back of 'Wilfy Nite' concept, even though they will feel the void created by the absence of Wilfy Rebimbus impossible to fill. Thousands of songs created by Wilfy have made a lasting impact on the minds of the common people as well as the other Konkani music lovers.
Though Wilfy’s presence will be missed a lot, all his troupe members will be re-grouped to pay a loving tribute to the master, who dedicated his life to music.
Ace compere Leslie Rego will take charge of the event.
Entry for the ‘Tribute’ show in Townhall will be free, but will be restricted to invitees only.
To obtain free passes, interested people are requested to contact the members of United Youngsters.
More details on the show will be available on daijiworld.com in the coming days.
