Udupi, Jan 9: Rotary International have set an example of universal brotherhood by their social welfare activities in up-lifting the living condition of poor and downtrodden in the society, said Swami Vishveshateerta of Pejavar Mutt.
Swami Vishveshateerta was speaking at the inaugural of Apoorva – 2011, 41st Rotary district convention, held at G M Vidhyaniketan Public School premises, Harady, near Brahmavar, here on Saturday January 8. The troubles lies in gratifying the selfish needs, while an act done for the welfare of others will be entitled for eternal reward, added Swami Vishveshateerta. Meanwhile, he hoped that Rotary creates revolution in imparting knowledge and social service, urged Swami Vishveshateerta who is the honorary Rotarian in both Udupi and Mysore Rotary Clubs.
State higher education minister Dr V S Acharya was the chief guest. He said that India will become a stronger nation both in economical and social sphere in 50 years with the knowledge revolution pursued by Rotary, he hoped.
Rotary district 3180 governor Jnanavasant Shetty and Arundati V Shetty honoured the chief guests.
Rotary International representative Tariq Tulba and Shinaz couple, retired principal A R Mitra, MLA K Raghupati Bhat, Brahmavar Rotary president Prakash Shetty, Rotarians K Shivaram Shetty, K Krishna Shetty, Suryaprakash Bhat, Devdas Rai, Edwin Joseph Alva, H L Ravi, presidents of 13 Rotary Clubs under zone13 were present.
The convention committee secretary Jayaprakash Kedlaya welcomed the gathering. B M Bhat proposed the vote of thanks. Shekar Shetty and Dr Gowri compered the programme.
