Mangalore, Jan 10: The alumni association of St Gerosa School, Jeppu was inaugurated here on Sunday January 9 evening. St Vincenza Gerosa is the patroness of the school.

The programme began by invoking God's blessings through a prayer song led by the former Gerosians. The past and present teaching faculty was honoured by the School Pupil Leaders (SPLs) of the batches from 1964 to 2009.

The power-point presentation of class-wise photographs of the batches from 1964 onwards was held amid the cheering of the former Gerosians.

The chartered accountant Chandrakanth Rao who passed out of Class VII during 1967 to 1968 and Renny Gladys Correa (nee Lobo) of 1964 batch reminisced the days spent in their Alma Mater.

Meanwhile, the Alma Mater was christened unanimously as Gerosa Ex-Students Association (GExSA which means ‘Energy’ in Latin) on the occasion.

PRIDE - that was the feeling on reading about the reunion of Ex-Gerosians. As a student of the school for 11 prestigious years right from K.G (1970) to std. X (1980-81) I can recall some of the most beautiful moments of my life spent in the corridors and portals of the school. Recognised all the teachers and many of my friends in the photos (I have not seen or heard from them for ages). Sad that I missed the reunion. Though I was in Mangalore during the first week of January, I had to return back to Kuwait on the 5th since my daughter had exams on the 6th. I hope to make it the next time. Wishing GExSA and the Managing committee Sr. Wilma, Rani, Blany and Rita (my classmate)and all members the very best. VIVA ST. GEROSA.

Jerosa School at Jeppu is very dear to us because our eldest son, Maximillon went to Gerosa for his first year in the year 1973-74 while we were in Saudi Arabia. We just could not bear the separation and therefore we ended his education in Mangalore and enrolled him in the U.S.Consulate School in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. We still proudly possess his class photograph at Gerosa including his sports trophy, and often joke at him that all his exemplary discipline in studies come from Gerosa School. Please therefore include Maximillon's name in the Alumni Association of Gerosa School as it would be a pleasure to recognize where we come from and where we have gone.

We did visit Gerosa School few years ago with nice mementos from Maximillon, but regrettably no one ever cared to acknowledge our visit until this date. Our attachment towards our Alma Mater is very important but the duty lies both ways.

Gerosa School is in our loving neighbourhood and we watch the progress with keen eyes because the Sisters of Charity are also very dear to us, in addition to the A.C.Nuns, Ursaline Nuns and also the Jesuit priests. Good luck to Gerosa School and do keep in touch.

I was a student of this school for only a year in VII Std. way back in the late seventees. In fact, this was the only school all five of us (siblings) studied. Remember late Sr. Raphael, Sr. Merilla, Teacher Flossy - our class teacher for VII A and Teacher Philomena for Class VII B. Recall, having the class in laughter for repeatedly addressing the ‘Teacher’ as ‘Miss,’ the term I was used to in Bangalore. The daily visits to the Chapel, the sandpit behind the school where we used to play kabaddi, the chiming of the St. Joseph’s Seminary Church bells at mid-day are ever fresh in my mind. Great school, great teachers … Good to hear about the new initiative!

Congratulations to the newly formed team and wish you all the best. I too was the proud ex-student of St.Gerosa along with my 2 sisters and 1 brother. Glad to see few teachers Vani Mani-Maths, Benita-Hindi, Ambha Bai-Kannada, Shalini-Maths, Vijaya (if am correct ), my high school memories came back when I saw the corridor of the school. Good days and great teachers and Nuns were very cooperative and helpful at all the times. God bless this school and all the teaching, non teaching staffs and students.
