Youth’s Murder Triggers Tension in Kasargod

Kasargod, Jan 10: Tension prevailed in Kasargod on Monday January 10 following the murder of a youth by a group of people on Sunday January 9 evening.
26-year-old Rishad, son of Mohammed, resident of Safar Manzil in Choori Battampare here breathed his last at a private hospital in Mangalore at around 11 pm the same night. Rishad is survived by his father, mother Fathimabi and siblings Sharafuddin, Shameer, Shamsheer, Sinan and Shameema.
It is said that Rishad, an employee of Malabar Wedding Centre in Kanhangad, was riding home with his friend Musaq after visiting his sister at KIMS Hospital when he was allegedly attacked and stabbed by a group of people. The group came on a motorbike and autorickshaw armed with weapons and fled the place soon stabbing Rishad.
A severely bleeding Rishad was rushed back to KIMS Hospital but was later shifted to a hospital in Mangalore. He later succumbed to his injuries.
His body was taken to Wenlock hospital for postmortem on Monday January 10.
United Democratic Front (UDF) party has called for a strike in Muddur gram panchayat which witnessed lesser number of people on the streets on Monday. Incidents of stone pelting were reported from Vidyanagar in the town. A KSRTC bus plying from Kasargod to Malakkal KSRC was targeted by miscreants and passengers suffered due to stoppage of bus service in that route.
Reserve police force called from Kannur and Wayanad have been pressed into service to keep vigil in the town where IG Sudhesh Kumar has stationed himself. An undeclared bandh was observed in Kasargod town on Monday. Bus service has been completely stopped and people chose to remain indoors.
