Kuwait, Jan 11: A mesmerizing performance by noted singers Pallavi and Arun enthralled the Kuwait Kannada Koota audience for more than three hours with their lilting music and catchy numbers at the packed Carmel School Auditorium recently for the Sangeeta Sanje and AGM programme.
Pallavi is a leading singer from Bangalore and her husband Arun, an ace drummer. Together with Madhusudhana on the tabla and Krishna Udupa on the keyboard, they unleashed a plethora of music such as sugama sangeeta, vachana, bandish, ghazals, bhava geete, desha bhakti geete, medley of hindi songs and fusion.
Pallavi also sang songs from her albums. She brought the crowd on its feet with several memorable numbers. Her medley of old numbers of Asha Bhonsle literally made the crowd dance to her tunes. The final song of the evening, ‘Aye Mere Vathan Ke Logon’ brought tears to the eyes of many people in the audience.
The event was preceded by prize distribution ceremony wherein mementos to various committees who had worked hard throughout 2010 to bring in varied programmes were presented. There were also releases of the monthly magazine Marala Mallige, desktop calendar 2011 and a new KKK directory on the occasion.
The revamped website www.kuwaitkannadakoota.org was released as well. As part of Christmas celebrations, there was the customary visit of Santa Claus with lots of chocolates for the Koota children.
Nagaraj Subbarao, president, Nagaraj Shanbhag, vice-president, Rajeev Kulkarni, general secretary and Praveen, treasurer were elected and installed into the executive committee for 2011.
The outgoing committee comprising of Harsha Rao, Subhadra Surana, Anil Prabhu and Revanasiddappa Hombali delivered the treasury report, summary of events and vote of thanks
