Udupi, Mar 3: It is learnt that in addition to six students of the government girls PU college here who went to high court questioning the management’s refusal to entertain the Hijabs inside the classes, about 15 to 20 Muslim students have been absenting from their classes from the last two weeks.
A girl student of first PU (arts) class said that including her, 15 to 20 girl students from the first and second PU classes have been abstaining from their classes. She said that they are awaiting the high court verdict in the Hijabs case and have decided to attend the college thereafter.
Out of the three second PU (science) students, one had practicals on Wednesday but she absented from the examination. College sources said that these three students had not appeared for the practicals held on Monday.
Principal of the college, Rudre Gowda, said that after the colleges were given holidays due to Hijab controversy and then reopened, a few girl students of the first PU (commerce) had come to this college with Hijabs. After they were told that Hijabs were not allowed in the college, 15 to 20 students are staying away from classes. Out of them, six to seven students were not regular in their classes for a long period, he added.
