Mangaluru, Mar 4: Dr M Achutha R Kudva (74), who was extremely popular as a family doctor in Mulki, breathed his last in a private hospital in the city on Thursday March 3. He has left behind wife, Shanti Kudva and children, Dr Arun Kudva and Dr Ajey Kudva.
Dr Kudva had taken a lead role in religious, social service and educational fields. Besides being a GSB community leader, he had functioned as the president of GSB Sabha, Mulki Sabhagriha Samithi, Mulki Vijaya College Board of Trustees, president of Indian Medical Association Mangaluru, Mulki Board School Development Committee, and secretary of Mulki Nagarika Samiti etc. He had taken a lead role in the development of the Mulki government PU college.
Dr Kudva had taken a stellar role in the development of various temples including Bappanadu Durgaparameshwari temple. He had published introductory books on famous personalities of Mulki and various medical articles in English and Kannada. He was an amateur artiste who acted in several plays. He was a sportsperson and supporter of sports activities and a good organizer.
Dr Kudva set up a nursing home, the first in Mulki in 1977, and then operated Mangalore Healthcare Centre in Mangaluru. He also started Happy Home for the Aged in Mangaluru. He was bestowed with various awards, honours and felicitations in recognition of his services.
Various persons including MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Sri Chandrashekhara Swamliji, MLA Umanath A Kotian, former minister K Abhayachandra Jain, youth Congress leader Mithun Rai, trustee Harikrishna Punaroor, and others have mourned his demise and hailed him for his selfless services to the society.
