Mangaluru, Mar 11: A worker, who was a native of West Bengal, identified as Nasiruddin Khan (32), suffered serious injuries when he was involved with the work of bringing to the shore the remnants of a sunken ship, Ocean Blessing. The said ship had sunk in the sea near Tannirbhavi here.
Nasiruddin was one of the workers hired to bring out the remains of the said ship from the depths of the sea. When Khan was working on the barge, an iron handle of the ship hit his head hard as a result of which he suffered critical injuries and breathed his last.
The incident happened at 5.10 pm on Wednesday March 9. Goa-based Seabird Marine Services has bagged the contract for extricating the sunken boat. Nasiruddin reportedly was working with some other workers to tighten the rope of the barge's anchor when the iron handle which he was holding suddenly struck his head hard. He sustained serious injuries and died a short while later. A case relating to this incident was filed in Panambur police station.
