Udupi Mar, 11: The Bhima Jewellers branch here handed over an Eeco ambulance to social worker Nithyananda Olakadu on Friday, March 11 at its showroom, under its Corporate Social Responsibility project.
Owner of the Bhima, Vishnusharan Bhat handed over ambulance key to the Nithyananda Olakadu.
Additional commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, speaking on the occasion, said, "During the pandemic period, people were afraid to touch the Covid positive corpses. We have witnessed many families abandoning those corpses at the mortuary in the district hospital. But Nithyananda Olakadu has done a great job and beyond his limitations. He came forward and performed the funeral rites to many such unknown corpses. I have seen his social service. Now Bhima has given more strength to his service and supporting him to do more noble works."
Vishnusharan Bhat said, "This is the happiest moment of my life as we are supporting Nithyananda after he approached us regarding the urgent need for an ambulance. We agreed without second thought. He has been serving the society since many years. Moreover, this is my native place. We have contributed an ambulance under our CSR funds. We have been helping needy families."
Raghavendra Bhat, deputy manager, Bhima showroom, Udupi, said, "Bhima has been extending its support to many institutions and needy families through its CSR initiatives since 23 years. This was one among them. Recently we have provided financial assistance to a brain tumour patient, contributed computers and laptops to the needy schools."
Sharmila S, Udupi District and Sessions Court senior judge, Pramod, sub inspector, Abdul Khadar, Traffic SI and Dr Madhusudan Nayak, district surgeon were present on the occasion.
