Mangalore, Jan 17:
At a press conference held here on Monday January 17, president of Dakshina Kannada district Sand Boat Workers' Association Jithendra J Suvarna said that the new CRZ rule passed by the government will bring the poor families into the streets as their income completely depends on traditional way of sand removing in the riverside.

This new policy did not take care of the interests of a large number of boat and sand workers who were involved in traditional sand mining occupation in the coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada for a long time, he said.

Earlier the government showed leniency to some extent when it put forth any rules, and the same care should be taken and the traditional sand mining should not be hampered and the places mentioned should be excluded from the rule, he added.

Association vice-president Purushotham Mally, general secretary Nazeer, treasurer Walter Lobo and joint secretary Ravi Paul Ferrao among others were present.
