Mangaluru, Mar 12: The Mangalore University (MU) Syndicate has unanimously decided that the university registrar should conduct a detailed study on the allegation made by Vivekananda Paniyala about land belonging to the university having been encroached upon by others. Paniyala is a city-based advocate who also happens to be a member of MU syndicate.
Paniyala has written about several acres of the university land worth crores of rupees having been usurped by the land mafia. The university has 353 acres of land as per records. Paniyala had sought a detailed report on the allegation and to present a report thereof before the syndicate. He also had sent copies of the letter to the state governor who happens to be the university chancellor, state chief secretary and other highly placed officials.
In his letter, Paniyala had said that fixed assets of the university have been annexed and unauthorized buildings have been built there. He had accused highly placed officials of having failed in discharging their legislative responsibilities.
Vivekananda Paniyala said that the registrar has been directed to produce the report accompanied by documents at the university syndicate meeting scheduled on March 29.
