Mangaluru, Mar 13: Moms of Mangalore, a community catering to 38,000 moms of the coastal region, in association with Decathlon and Panambur Beach Association conducted a "Women's Day Out" along with Beach Clean up drive on March 13, at Panambur beach
The objective was to create awareness among people to keep beaches clean, safeguard the environment and inculcate the habit of respecting coastlines which in turn nurtures marine biodiversity.
It's an initiative needed! Close to 600 kgs of thrash was collected by the participants, most of the thrash coming from gutka packets, beer bottles, ice cream cups, chips packets and the like. All the participants were provided with trash bags and protective gloves to undertake the beach and surrounding clean up.
Participants removed waste and non-biodegradable materials littered on the beaches including segregation of food articles and plastic bottles.
The collected waste materials were put in garbage bags for disposal and handed over to MCC for appropriate waste disposal.
Dr Shilpa Shreyas and Dr Swetha Kamath led the initiatives today along with Preethika from Decathlon.
The team at MOM said the cleanliness drive has created awareness among moms and hoped they would continue along with their kids to take the initiative to keep the coastal environment clean.
The drive ended with laughter yoga, fun contests , lucky draw for the participants and a power packed Zumba by ZIN Shruthi of Club Studios 6 which left the participants re-energized. All in all, a women's day celebration with a purpose.
