Bantwal, March 13: Two unidentified miscreants who came on a motorbike snatched a 28-gram Mangalya chain from a woman while she was walking by Kaikunje East layout on B C Road at 10.15 AM on Sunday, March 13.

After snatching the chain the culprits fled from the spot. The victim, Sulochana, a resident of Kaikunje East Layout, has filed a  complaint with the Bantwal Town police station.

It is suspected that the bike-borne duo may be involved in more such chain snatching cases.

It is said that the snatching occurred while the victim was returning home after collecting her stitched clothes from a house in Kaikunje about 10.15 AM. A bike came in front of her on the layout road and the pillion rider snatched her chain worth Rs 1 lac.

Immediately, the locals informed the police.  Circle inspector Vivekananda and his team rushed to the spot for the investigation. Police have assured that the culprits would be arrested very soon. The incident has created panic among the local residents as it is reported in broad daylight.

It may be recalled that a similar incident was reported in Kaikunje during an evening in 2018. Back then, an employee from BSNL was walking towards his house when a miscreant came on the bike, snatched the chain and fled the spot.

Later, then SI Nandakumar and his team arrested and seized the stolen chain and returned it to the victim.

Rita is right in her comment... Wearing expensive jewellery is better avoided... This is true especially when on daily commute... Mobile phones are also targeted by these criminals...
