Bantwal, Mar 16: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Fr Rajendra K V, said that the government has the responsibility of providing land for laying the power transmission line and that the department of power has given suitable guidance to the district administration in this connection. He said that the responsibility of the deputy commissioner is to execute the works without creating problems for the people, providing relief if the people face problems and attend to such other things.
He was speaking at a meeting for which 69 farmers who have approached the court on the issue of laying 40 kV Udupi - Kasargod power transmission line through their fields, was held at Vittal on Tuesday March 15.
Affected farmer, Rajeev Gowda, said that the farmers don't want power transmission line through their fields and that they have sought this relief in the high court. He said that the farmers do not need any compensation and not laying the line through their fields is the best compensation they are demanding.
Assistant commissioner Madan Mohan, said that this meeting was convened as per high court order, and not to decide all the issues together. He said that work will not begin immediately and that everything will be done as per law.
The farmers objected to the notice issued by the land acquisition officer and assistant commissioner to fix compensation amount on March 15 through a notice dated March 11, even though the high court had directed that the petitions filed by farmers have to be disposed of in one month. The farmers thereafter walked out, saying that they are opposed to speaking on the issue of compensation in this meeting.
Tahsildar Rashmi S R, and affected farmers were present.
