Mangalore: DC Warns Unregistered Private Hospitals in District

Mangalore, Jan 20: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Subodh Yadav, noted that ample time had been given to private medical institutions to get themselves registered as per the provisions of Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act – 2007, and Rules – 2009. If there are institutions which are yet to apply for registration, strict action as per legal provisions, will be instituted against them, he warned.

He issued directions to the district health and family welfare officer, O R Srirangappa, who also happens to be the member secretary of the health and family welfare society, to take steps as per law against erring medical institutions. Srirangappa said that October 24, 2010, was the last date for the receipt of applications for registration, under the said act.

The deputy commissioner noted that most of the private health institutions in the district are located within Mangalore taluk. He said that as per law, these institutions have to maintain full details of endeavours towards clean environment, basic infrastructure,  record of detailed health check of patients, and displaying of details about disposal of biomedical waste, registration, etc., outside their buildings. He asked all the health institutions to comply with the legal provisions strictly.

He said that these institutions have to provide first aid to medico-legal cases, and send reports about contagious diseases they treat, to the district health officer. He asked the district health officer to form four additional team headed by taluk medical officers, to visit the institutions which are yet to be inspected and record progress thereon.

President of district Indian Medical Association, office bearers, and taluk medical officers, were present at the meeting.
