Udupi, Jan 20: Inmates of the district jail, Muttappa, Nagaraj, Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, and Sharanappa Amarapur, who are accused of being involved with the murder of another inmate of the jail, Vinod Shettigar, have been remanded to police custody.

It may be recalled that Shettigar was murdered inside the jail at around 8 am on January 14. He was found to have been stabbed with a knife.

On Wednesday January 19, they were produced in the court. The policemen, at the same time, moved a request for remanding them to police custody for interrogation. The court, holding the demand as justified, passed orders, remanding the four to police custody, it is learnt.
