Mangalore, Jan 21: India International Film Festival 2011 will be held at Sahodaya Campus, Balmatta, Mangalore from Friday February 18 to Sunday February 27, informed Karan Samarthh, festival director at a press conference here on Friday January 21.
The international festival is organized by Film and Multi-Media Commission in association with Madhusudan Education Foundation.
Along with ‘Desi Regional Films’ (India’s regional feature films), national and international award winning films by Girish Kasaravalli, Sadanand Suvarna and others, including Oscar winning films, national award winning and Oscar-nominated Marathi film ‘Harishchandrachee Factory’ and ‘Dombivli Fast’, ‘Kadambari’ and ‘Mazhab’ will be screened.
Film Technique Academy, [FTA] Mangalore will be inaugurated during the festival at Devaki Nivas, Urwa, Mangalore.
India International Film Festival 2011, Mangalore – IIFF, with the slogan ‘Cinema for All’ - an original concept by Karan Samarthh of FMC to organize film festivals in the metro cities along with small towns of India - proposes to screen International feature films, short films, documentary and animation films in DVD format. There will also be discussions on the movies with the expertise of international panels of speakers.
A separate section of international short films at short film corner with the active participation by filmmakers from various countries will add to the grandeur of the festival.
Prithvi Soni, Ananya Banerji, Ami Patel, Ashok Padhye and Dilip Dahanukar will be the members of screening committee.
Films Division has provided their classic film package by renowned filmmakers. CFSI has provided children’s films of various genres by Oscar winning filmmakers. FTII has lent films by a number of their alumni who are big names in the arena of cinema of India today.
Artistes’ Centre (Mumbai) and Artistes’ Combine (Mangalore) will organize an exhibition of paintings along with musical performances. Cultural activities which will be held within the precincts.
There shall be three screening halls at the venue campus to screen the films, along with space for holding press conferences, Seminars, Interactive discussions and film forums.
A seminar on ‘Digital Film Technology - Future of Cinema’ would be held by experts in the field to read and distribute the papers. A seminar on ‘film restoration’ would be held by experts in the field to read and distribute the papers.
Madhusudan Kumar, vice-chairman, Dr Honey Cabral, principal of Karnataka Theological College and Tharanath Kapikad, media coordinator of the event among others were present at the press meet.
