Bantwal: Police Custody for Baliga Shoot-out Case Accused

Bantwal, Jan 22: Sayyed Zulfikar (39), a native of Mandagadde near Teerthahalli, who is the main accused in the case of firing at a jewellery shop here, which belongs to Suresh V Baliga here last year, is in the custody of the local policemen. The court, on his production, remanded him to three days’ police custody.

The policemen have recovered the pistol used in the above firing, two live bullets, as well as a car used by the concerned, from the accused.

The policemen said that Zulfikar is a rowy sheeter in Mandagadde police station, who faces ten cases including assault, sandalwood theft, posing of death threats, abduction, and others. The circle inspector said that during preliminary questioning, the accused revealed that he was given Rs 20,000 as advance for the shoot out. He also told the policemen that it was agreed that he will get share in the booty, once the jeweller pays two crore rupees extortion amount demanded from him.

In the past, four persons were arrested by the policemen relating to this case. A stolen motor bike was used for the shoot out, but Asif, who was driving the motor bike at the time of the crime, remains elusive.

Zulfikar was arrested by circle inspector, K Nanjunde Gowda, sub-inspector of police, Vivekanand, and other personnel, from Mandagadde. The identity of the accused was revealed by Madoor Yousuf alias Isubu, who is under arrest in connection with various cases including this one.
