Puttur, Mar 24: It is often observed that Pakistan, China and some other countries purposefully delete Kashmir from the Indian map while publishing them. In a strange incident, such a map was provided to the children by the Karnataka PU Education Board.
In the second PUC preparatory examination in history subject conducted on Saturday, March 19, a chunk of Kashmir was cut off by the department in its version of map. The board has committed this blunder at a time when the subject of Kashmir is being hotly debated all over India.
In the said question paper, the students were asked to mark any five historical places listed, and write an explanation about each of these places in two sentences. In the Indian map, the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir was found to have been left out.
In normal course, preparatory question papers are prepared under the supervision of the PU history lecturers' association. This year too, as per the PU Board directions, the work was given to the association of principals and lecturers. It is learnt that the said blunder was committed only in Dakshina Kannada whereas the question papers provided in other districts contained the full map inclusive of Kashmir.
After the faux pas came to light, the officials who initially tried to cover up the lapse, have decided to investigate it. The officials say they have not received any objections or complaints about it. Now, Hindu organizations including student organizations like the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have come to know of it and certain organizations are planning to hold protests against the association of the district PU lecturers and the officials who did not review the question papers before providing them to the students.
