Udupi: Medical shop owner loses life in hit-and-run accident

Udupi, Mar 25: A medical shop owner was killed in a hit and run case near Kadiyali on Friday, March 25 morning.

The deceased, Vaman Nayak of Parkala, was hit by a speeding car from behind when he was travelling from Udupi to Parkala on his two wheeler.

Sources said that the car was being driven by a student. The police tracked down the car and its driver immediately and was brought to station. Vaman Nayak who suffered serious head injuries, was immediately taken to Government Hospital, Ajjarkad from where he was shifted to a private hospital in Manipal. However, he succumbed.

He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

A case in this regard has been filed in the Udupi traffic police station.

    RTO and TRAFFIC POLICE DEPARTMENT must take strict actions and checking the drivers licence. In the above case student is lady, they must check all most all girls and ladies driving license, they learn from their parents , or family members, or friends and get the license from the help of brokers. Authority must check driving licence of youngsters, boys and girls, regularly, otherwise these half knowledge drivers will kill more innocent persons.

    Why would one take the injured to Udupi when Manipal hospital is less than 3 kms away. None should be spared for hit and run case.

    Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Everyone in the district is saddened without doubt. State government is in charge of law and order. They have to prove what measures they have taken to stop these type of unnatural deaths. This is a matter of safety culture and is very difficult to establish. Driving licences are too easy to obtain, for a start.

    It is high time State Govt. instruct RTO to take strict measures over the issuance of driving licence . The learner needs to undergo rigorous training like in Middle East and be subjected to road test.
