Udupi: ‘Halekodi Kavyal Sanj’ by Kavita Trust unites Barkur poets on River Sita banks

Udupi, Mar 27: The Barukurians witnessed a poetic Saturday evening on the banks of river Sita in "Halekodi Kavyal Sanj" organized on Saturday by the Kavita Trust (R), Mangaluru and poetry enthusiasts from in and around Barkur. The poetry reciting program was held on the banks of river Sita in the picturesque yards of Alwyn Almeida, Halekodi, Bakrur.

Fr Philip Neri Aranha, parish priest Barkur parish inaugurated the Halekodi Kavyal Sanj.

Melwyn Rodrigues, founder trustee, Kavita Trust, in his introductory speech, explained about the works undertaken by Kavita Trust in the past years. He said, "Kavita trust has a unique relationship with the Barkur soil. Many talented poets and writers have emerged over the years from Barkur. We had even organized poetry reciting programs in Barkur earlier," he said.

Renowned master of ceremony Eric Soans Barkur presided over the poetry reciting session. Sujatha Andrade, Sasthan, Dr Flavia Castelino, Manipal, Antony Lewis, Manipal, Pius James, Karugalnade, Henry Lewis Brahmavar, Alice D’Souza Barkur, Jitha Gonsalves, Barkur, Archibald Furtado, Kallianpur recited their poems.

Famed drama artist Alwyn Andrade Sasthan conducted "Kavi ani Jivith" a talk session on life and poetry of Pius James Karulgalnade.
Eugine Quadros, Noreen Lobo and Vivet Lewis presented some Konkani lullabies from yesteryears.
This Kavigoshti was organised with the local collaboration of P J Karugalnade and family along with Almeida family of Halekodi and concluded with a sumptuous food provided by them.
