Bantwal: Home-alone old lady threatened, gagged, robbed of gold ornaments

Bantwal, Mar 28: An old woman living alone was threatened, cloth was stuffed into her mouth and robbed of the gold ornaments she was wearing in her ears and also the ones kept in an almirah. The incident took place at night on Saturday March 26 at Maninalkur village within Bantwal rural police station limits.

The old lady, identified as Muttu Ajji, was divested of her ear lobes, a Mangalasutra chain and finger ring kept inside an almirah. 4.3 grams of gold was fobbed from her home.

The incident happened in the residence of Sesappa Naik from Tandalke in Maninalkur village. Sesappa Naik lives with his mother Muttu Ajji, and wife Prema. The couple had left to watch a play organized at Bachakere nearby on the occasion of Brahmakalashotsava after locking the house and leaving behind Muttu, mother of Sesappa, alone inside the house. They left home at 8.30 pm.

Sesappa and his wife came back at 2.30 am and found that the lock of the door had been broken open and the door was ajar. They went in and questioned the old lady and were told that an unidentified person came into the house and forcibly stuffed clothes into the mouth of Muttu Ajji who was sleeping. She was threatened of murder if she raised an alarm.

Bantwal deputy superintendent of police, Pratap Thorat, rural police inspector Harish, sub-inspector (crime) Sanjeeva, fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs visited the spot, collected details and registered a case.

The police, who are hunting for the culprit, are confident of arresting him at the earliest.
