Millions of Flood-hit Pakistanis Struggle for Food

Islamabad, Jan 27 (IANS): Millions of Pakistanis hit by last year's devastating floods are "still facing flood water, shivering in temporary shelters and struggling to find food", said a report of an international NGO.

The Oxfam report, "Six months into the floods", said that though the aid effort had reached millions, it struggled to meet the huge scale of human need.

"Six months on, millions of people are still facing flood water, shivering in temporary shelters and struggling to find food," Dawn quoted the Oxfam report as saying.

The INGO was currently helping nearly 1.9 million people, said Neva Khan, the head of Oxfam in Pakistan.

Nearly 20 million people had been affected by the floods that caused destruction running into billions of rupees.
