Railway engineer held for taking bribe


New Delhi, Apr 1 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has arrested a Railway engineer, posted in Nagpur, for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh, an official said on Friday.

The accused was identified as A.B Chaturvedi, Assistant Divisional Engineer (South), Central Railway, Nagpur.

The premier probe agency said a case was registered against the said officer on a complaint where the complainant stated that the accused engineer was demanding a bribe of Rs 1,80,000 to pass some bills of the complainant's firm.

"It was further alleged that the accused demanded the bribe @ 2 % of the total bill of the complainant's firm to the tune of Rs 89.55 lakh (approx), pending with him," the official said.

Accordingly, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.

The department also conducted searches on the premises of the accused which resulted in recovery of cash of approximately Rs 60.62 lakh and other incriminating documents. The accused will be produced today before a Competent Court at Nagpur, the official added.
