Udupi, Apr 7: Deputy Commissioner M Kurma Rao has directed all tahsildars to take necessary and precautionary measures to ensure adequate supply of drinking water to the urban and rural areas of the district during the summer.
Presiding over the Disaster Management Authority meeting on Wednesday at the Court Hall in the DC’s office, he said immediate steps need to be taken to ensure that sufficient drinking water is supplied to those villages and city wards that did not get enough water during the summer last year. He also said adequate fodder should be stocked and made available for cattle during the summer.
The deputy commissioner directed all the officials to complete installation of digital radio towers and siren towers at identified locations immediately so that the citizens could be warned of occurrences of disasters and calamities. He said details of crop loss arising out of the natural calamities could be registered using web-based technology.
He said he has directed all concerned officials to distribute disaster management equipment to those who have submitted details of their requirement and those affected by calamities.
Kurma Rao said adequate money has been disbursed to Tahsildars to manage disasters, adding that, the district natural calamity fund enjoys sufficient financial grants. He said additional funds could be released if there is a need.
Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Coastal Security Police SP Anshu Kumar, Additional District Commissioner Veena, Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Kiran Pednekar, project manager of State Planning Implementation Cell Dr Rajkumar Poojary, Kundapara Assistant Commissioner Raju and other district officials were also present.
