Mangaluru, Apr 9: World Health Day is celebrated every year on April 7 to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. On the Occasion of World Health Day, National Service Scheme, A J Institute of Dental Sciences in association with department of Public Health Dentistry and Indian Dental Association – Dakshina Kannada Branch conducted an awareness Talk on Prevention of Oral, Breast and Cervical Cancer online for school teachers of Mangaluru.
The chief guest Sudakara, deputy director of Public Instructions inaugurated the programme. Dr K Nillan Shetty, principal, Dr Shreshtha Shetty, NSS programme officer, Dr Vijaya Hegde, professor and head, department of Public Health Dentistry, Dr Prasanna, treasurer, IDA – DK Branch and Dr Bharath Prabhu, secretary, IDA – DK Branch were present.
Dr Anuradha, assistant professor, department of Community Medicine, A J Institute of Medical Sciences addressed the teachers regarding the prevention of breast and cervical cancer. She made the teachers aware about Prevention of Breast Cancer by Self-Breast examination and Prevention of Cervical Cancer.
Dr Vajida Banu, A J Institute of Dental Sciences spoke about most common cause for oral cancer and ill effects of tobacco. She also spoke about self-examination of oral cavity for early signs of cancer.
