The family of the deceased had gone to NITK beach in order to offer the ashes of Venkatesh's father- in-law who died recently.

After the ritual, it is said that Venkatesh was playing on the beach along with his daughter Vaishnavi and his brother’s daughter Trisha. A huge wave suddenly pulled all of them into the sea.

The rest of the family members immediately informed the matter to the police. Prashant, a home guard from Surathkal police station and another local youth, who were nearby, brought all the three to the shore and then shifted them to Mukka Srinivas hospital in the Hoysala van. However, Trisha and Vaishnavi died on the way. It is learnt that Venkatesh is recovering in the hospital.

Vaishnavi was studying engineering in one of the colleges in the city and Trisha was a student of Gurukula High school in Bengaluru.
