Kundapur: Our children should learn to read, write in Kannada: Punarooru

Kundapur, Apr 15: Former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punarooru said it is necessary for all our children to read and write Kannada in their learning irrespective of the medium of instruction they choose to study.

Inaugurating the 15th Udupi District Kannada Sahitya Sammelana here he said litterateurs are sons of Goddess Saraswathi and added that they would become sons of Goddess Lakshmi only if Kannadigas buy and patronise Kannada books.

The meet was presided over by the president of the sammelana Prof. A V Navada.

District president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Neelavar Surendra Adiga gave his keynote address. Dr Gayathri Navada released the book.

Dr Kabbinale Vasant Bharadwaj who is also a litterateur and a researcher gave an introductory speech.

Kasaragod Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Subramanya V Bhat, Kannada and Culture Department deputy director Poornima, Education Officer Arun Kumar Shetty, Kundapura Govt. Pre-University College principal Ramakrishna B G, Convenor of Kundapura taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat Dr Umesh Putran, Udupi Kannada Sahitya Parishat Treasurer Manohar P, Organising Secretary P V Anand and Mohan Udupa, honorary secretary Dinakar Shetty, co-convenor Manjunath, Akshatha Girish Aithal, Udupi taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Raviraj H P, Karkala taluk KSP president K Prabhakar Shetty, Brahmavar taluk KSP president Ramachandra Aithal, Kapu taluk KSP president Pundalika Marathe, Hebri taluk KSP president Srinivasa Bhandary and Byndooru taluk KSP president Dr Raghu Nayak were also present.

Udupi district KSP honorary secretary Subramanya Shetty welcomed the gathering. Satish V proposed the vote of thanks. Narendra Kumar Kota compered the programme.
