Kundapur, Apr 20: Udupi deputy commissioner (DC) M Kurma Rao on Tuesday visited Kedoor, which falls under the Saligrama Town Panchayat, to inspect a proposed dumping yard that is being readied much to the chagrin of the local residents.

An area spread over 2.5 acres of land has been bought for the landfill (dumping yard) by the Saligrama Town Panchayat.

Residents of the area have been opposing the landfill for dumping wastes since long and continued to protest the proposed plan.

Speaking on the occasion, Kurma Rao said he was on an inspection visit to the landfill site and to study the ground realities before arriving at a decision.

Local residents had no inkling or information regarding the DC’s visit to the site. However, on behalf of the residents of Kedoor gram panchayat, ward member Prashanth Shetty said they opposed the plan of the district administration to have a dumping yard in Kedoor.
