Bengaluru, Apr 22: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar on Saturday accused the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government of carrying out ‘vendetta politics’’ against the party.

Speaking to media persons at the KPCC office, he said though 10,000 persons had assembled at the Congress party’s protest in support of the farmers at the Freedom Park on January 20, the Bommai government had filed cases against six Congress leaders, including himself as the first accused. The names of KPCC working presidents, Saleem Ahmed, Ishwar Khandre as also those of Manjunath, Safiulla and Basanagouda Badarli were also added.

During the party’s Mekedatu padayatra, the Bommai government had filed cases against him and some others in Ramanagara, Kanakapura and Bengaluru, he said and mentioned that the intention of the government was nothing but make them run from place to place to participate in court proceedings.

“We have obtained bail from the courts. But it is clear that the government is targeting a few Congress leaders as part of the vendetta politics,’’ he alleged.

Shivakumar pointed out that former minister K S Eshwarappa and BJP MP B Y Raghavendra and some other leaders had openly flouted the prohibitory orders but no cases were filed against the BJP leaders. Why no action was taken against BJP leaders, he asked.

The KPCC Chief dubbed the Bommai government as commission government and termed it as the most corrupt. They have made money during the Covid pandemic and taking bribes and commissions from religious maths, contractors and even from the garbage collections, he said pointing out that the corruption in the recent tests for recruitment of police sub-inspectors was another example.
