Dubai, Feb 12 (IANS/WAM) The UAE government has warned livestock traders against selling or trading in diseased or feeble animals.

The ministry of environment and water, in a circular, has warned against the practice of mixing animals bred differently or coming from various origins while offering them for sale in the markets.

It has also warned against any kind of sexual abuse of animals, and said that any surgical interventions made on animals should be under local or general anesthesia and under the supervision of specialists or veterinarians using safe instruments.

The steps by the ministry are being undertaken to ensure bio-security in the country, thus contributing to food security, as well as to prevent the spread of animal diseases, especially common among humans and animals.

The ministry stressed that all employees working in animal farms, zoos, breeding centers, research institutes, clinics, hospitals and stores that sell animals, mammals, wild birds and pets, reptiles, ornamental fish and amphibians to abide by a 2007 law on animal welfare.
