Mangaluru: Smart City work – Lack of quality of work, shortage of engineers in MCC

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 1: The residents of the city are upset with MCC for the shoddy works being carried out in the name of Smart City projects. The new concrete roads that were just constructed are being dug again due to lack of proper planning and coordination.

The road from Monkeystand to Mangaladevi via Cascia High school was developed just a month ago under the Smart City project. The drainage and footpath are also built. However, as there was no coordination between the people who built the road and those who were given the drainage and footpath work, the rain water has been flowing on the road. The residents of Monkeystand and Cascia High School area are facing hardships because of this.

Now the newly laid concrete road is being dug to make way for the rainwater to flow. Tax payers’ money is being wasted due to lack of coordination between the engineers and contractors of MCC.

Mobile cable channels were put in front of Mangaladevi temple from quite some time. During the Smart city project, a footpath was built over them and interlock and steel poles were erected. Some days ago, when there was a technical fault with the mobile service provider, they searched for the chamber and were in for a shock that the chamber is under the footpath. Then they dug the footpath to reach the chamber. These are the kinds of works that are done by MCC.

Social worker Dilraj Alva says, “The only solution to this issue is to suspend the engineer responsible for the said work that is carried out under the limits of MCC. In addition, the contractor concerned has to be blacklisted. If the newly laid concrete needs to be broken, the cost involved should be borne by the respective contractor and engineer. Then only they will work with more responsibility.”

J V Roche road is the one connecting St.Rita Church and Jaihind Circle (near Monkey stand and Cascia School area) which is in shambles since last three years due to various reasons. Now they have made trenches for rain water about two months back but till today it is not covered. One day it will be filled with all waste and mud. The road work is also going on at snails speed. Our complaints to local representative is not at all attended. Even we have multicolored street lights in the night. Some are sodium vapors , some are florescent tubes etc. Are we really smart ??

Both the national parties are the same. both will only implement projects in a way that will fill their pockets. 100 cr project becomes 400 cr by the end of the work. Some times MCC engineers + consultant, do not even give drawings to contractors, for road work. why pay them hefty service fees when their service is shoddy??? politicians in power need to have the willpower to want to ACTually develop the district. but alas all they care for is money/seat to make more money. All a shitty game they are playing and we are part of it. To change the game, one needs to change the player. Enough of opportunities to bjp and congress, i wonder how aap is in mangalore??

Mcc may not have engineers. But, there are so many engineers without job. Appoint them and dont harrass them for commission. Its really shameful t9 say there are no engineers in MCC where dk is fsmous for educational backgrounds.....We are very good giving excuses and put blame on others for not getting the works done since tears. What will be the situation when rain begins ?? Govt employees never work ....simply come at the odd times heating the chairs ...time pass and go. In this month of May, there are so many govt holidays for banks and govt offices.....Which country do have like this. In govt offices, working hours are very less....what can we expect from these govt offices ??
