Plantation drive proposed for KVT complex in Varanasi

Varanasi, May 2 (IANS): A massive plantation drive will take place at the newly renovated Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi to give a green cover to the temple complex.

Shri Kashi Vishwanath Special Area Development Board chairman and divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal said that the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor will get the much-needed greenery when trees of select varieties are planted with the onset of monsoon.

Officials have prepared a plan of planting Neem, Karanji (Indian beech), Rudraksha, Indian Bel/Bilva (wood apple), Sita Ashok, Krishna Kadam and Nagalinga (cannon ball) trees under the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Mandir Precinct (SKVMP) Project.

Trees of select species, as prescribed in the masterplan, will be planted in pits prepared with manure mix garden soil without damaging their primary roots, he said.
