Kasargod, May 2: Three persons were reported drowned from Payaswini Lake in Tonikadavu.

The deceased have been identified as Nithin (38), his wife Deeksha (30) and his relative Manish (16).

This incident occurred at around 3 pm when Deeksha got into the lake and was caught in a whirlpool. To rescue her, two others jumped into the lake and all of them met a watery grave.

After hours of search by the police, fire fighting force and the locals, the drowned bodies could be retrieved.

Nithin had returned from Gulf a few days back and nine of them had gone to the lake in the late afternoon. Nithin and his wife Deeksha got into the water. Despite his best efforts to rescue his wife, Nithin could not help her from drowning.

Manish also jumped into the lake to save the two of them. When all of them shouted for help, locals came to their rescue but in vain.

The drowned bodies were recovered at around 6 pm and were handed over to Kasargod General Hospital and kept in the mortuary.

Normally during summer there is not much water over here but due to rains in neighbouring Sullia the water level had gone up and was flowing. Unfortunately none of them knew swimming.
