Kundapur: Rising prices of tomato, lemon add to consumer woes

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (MS)

Kundapur, May 9: The price of tomato which was hovering at Rs 40 to Rs 45 last week has shot up to Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kilo.

It is said that the price will go still higher if the supply does not increase as there is huge demand for tomato now due to marriages and functions are more in the month of May.

This is the second time that the price of tomato has shot up to this level. In December 2021 and January 2022, the price was around Rs 80 to Rs 90. The present price may continue till June 10 as per market observers.

Meanwhile, price of lemon has also gone up due to summer and many functions in May. At present, the price of one lemon is Rs 10 to Rs 12. A month ago four lemons were available for Rs 10. A bag of lemon (1,000 pieces), which used to cost Rs 1,500 has shot up to Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 now.

Price of vegetables like beans, gherkins, brinjal and drumsticks is more or less stable. The only consolation is that the price of onion has come down from Rs 30 to Rs 35 to Rs 20 to Rs 25 per kilo.

If you ask Andhbhakth about petrol price hike he will advice you to use bicycle instead heavy vehicles. If you ask him about the prices of gas, tomato, onion, lemon or anything basic which is beyond common man's reach, he will advice you to find the alternate.
