New Delhi: 'Dream Girl' Chosen for Karnataka

New Delhi, Feb 19, (DHNS): In a surprise move, the BJP central leadership on Friday selected well-known film actress Hema Malini as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha byelection in Karnataka. The central election committee here decided to field the former Rajya Sabha member and party’s national vice-president for the seat in the byelection which has been necessitated by the death of M Rajasekhara Murthy.

The seat has one year left for its term to complete.Announcing the party decision, BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar said Hema Malini, 63, has been serving the party since long and has taken part in election campaigns.

The party choice, which has caught many unawares, shocked Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa whose choice was former Union minister V Dhananjay Kumar, currently the state representative in Delhi. However, ignoring Yeddyurappa’s claims, the party decided to choose the film star, popularly known as “dream girl.” The chief minister, said sources close to him, has been upset after he was “informed” of Hema Malini’s candidature.

That the state election committee failed to meet and send in its recommendation came in handy for the national election committee to take a decision in favour of the Hindi film star.

“It sent out a signal that the committee was not united. Thus, it became easier for the national committee to select the actress,” party sources said.

Hema Malini is the second non-Kannadiga to be nominated for the Rajya Sabha membership by the BJP. Party general secretary Venkaiah Naidu from Andhra Pradesh has been a Rajya Sabha member for three times from Karnataka.

Nothing prevents Hema Malini from contesting for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat, though she neither resides in Karnataka nor is she a registered voter in the State.

When the NDA-led government was in power, it amended the People’s Representatives Act which stipulates that a person need not be a voter of a particular state from where he/she contests Rajya Sabha elections.

It is shame on BJP High Command and the karnataka BJP Government for not finding a suitable candidate for Rajya Sabha.Hema Malini may be a star but what she has done to Karnataka or Kannada films? Even Venkaiah Naidu was sent from Karnataka for what supporting BJP's
corrupt CM and corrupt Ministers?Hema Malini may be a Dream Girl for
the BJP leaders in Delhi but not for 6 crore Kannadigas.By rejecting
a ticket to a Kannadiga, the BJP central leadership made a big mistake they will have to pay for it.Why Hema Malini? For the road shows in North Karnataka?

Hello Mr. Vicky Chopra there is NO caste in Christians. It is never said any part of the Holy Bible.
There are different groups in Christians but there is nothing like upper class, lower class, SC, ST, and untouchable caste.
Read the below article about Christian groups. Thanks.

Christians, despite their schismatic tendencies, always put a premium on unity of faith. Yet the Christological debates of the third to fifth centuries ultimately led to the separation of the Monophysite Churches after the Council of Chalcedon. In 1054 the Orthodox Church and the Western Roman Church divided, partly over the Western addition to the creed of the assertion that the Holy Spirit proceeded from both the Father and the Son.
The Reformation of the sixteenth century in Western Europe divided the Roman Catholic Church from the Lutherans, Calvinists, Anglicans, and other "reforming" communities. In dispute at this period were the claims of the institutional church to provide the only route to salvation and the reformers' claim that the individual needed only a justifying faith and the Bible to read, and the grace of the Holy Spirit would do the rest. In the eighteenth century the Methodist Church separated from the Church of England (Anglican) over the validity of its ministry and in due course it became a worldwide "communion."

I think Dr. S. Kamath Mumbai is not Medical Doctor. He must be either vetenarian or Political Doctor. Dr. Kamth you must know that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi contested in election and won in election. But Ms. Hemalini is nominated candidate and she is ed not for good for public but it is totally for BJP. Dr. Kamath if you are Medical Doctor please put a clear note front of your clinic saying that, “ Only BJP Supporters and Only High Class Hindus are treated Here”. Your comments sense like this.

D'ont assess the things in your own way.Read the comments of Dr.S.Kamath carefully. He was only portraying that Hema Malini was not like a outsider for Karnataka but like iyengari brahmins who originally hail from Tamilnadu and close to Kannada/Karnataka as she is.

Dr S kamath, Mumbai, are u a supporter of bramin caste. Being a doctor by profession, person of your calibre should not write up caste based comments, which is usually written or spoken by exploiters for their own selfish end.
One of most admired actress even today is Hema Malini. Being she has very high exposure in politics, film industry as well as public life, hope she will bring better understanding amongst all section of people irrespective of religion, class and caste. Let spirit of India be first. Wish her all the best.

Its the good decision by BJP central leadership, instead of a worst corrupt Yeddy's man.., Outsiders are much better.
its not the question of a Kannadiga or Madrasi, we all are Indians. Its the question of who is better to be a Member of Parliment(Temple of Legislature).

Why should BJP always choose outsiders? Are there no candidates worthy of representing Karnataka in Rajya Sabha? Though I am not a great admirer of BJP, I strongly feel that Dhananjaya Kumar would have been an ideal choice because he has been doing a wonderful job in faithfully defending Chief Minister. Is this the price of loyalty?

Dhanajayakumar may be eying on RS seat from BJP from the state but unfortunately this face is not being liked at large in DK/Karnataka due to his past performance. However he is a good orator and best bet for good sponsman for the party. Instantly, 'Dream Girl' enjoys mass support within and outside party as she is a crowd puller which is very essential for any party for considering the RS seat.

Roshan s Comments appear to be to instigate Kannadigas against Non kannadigas Remember Hemamalini is a iyyenagri Brahmin who are considered very close to kannadigas Many Iyyengaries speak Kannada even today even though they are Tamils .Also Hemamalini is more of a Indian National Figure who hasbeen admired by people around the globe for her Beauty .We have accepted Italian born to be MP why not Hemamalini ?This will strengthen the bondage of Karnataka with whole of India
