Kasab Smiled as Court Upheld his Death Sentence

Mumbai, Feb 21 (IANS) :  Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab smiled and grinned as a grim division bench of the Bombay High Court Monday upheld the death sentence awarded to him by a lower court for the killings during the 26/11 terrorist strike, lawyers said.

He appeared before the division bench comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R.V. More through a video-conferencing from his cell in the Arthur Road Central Jail, shortly after 11 a.m.

Kasab walked in nonchalantly, smiling away before the camera as the judges dismissed an appeal filed by his counsel, challenging the death sentence given to him by Special Court Special Judge M.L. Tahaliyani in May 2010.

"It is the rarest of rare cases. If he is not awarded the death penalty, then people might lose faith in the judicial process," the bench grimly observed.

The court upheld the four counts on which Kasab was slapped with the death sentence by Special Judge Tahaliyani last May, including the killing of three top Mumbai police officials - former anti-terrorism squad chief Hemant Karkare, encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar and Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Kamte.

A total of 166 persons were killed in the mayhem let loose by Kasab and nine other Pakistani gunmen during the 60-hour Mumbai terror attacks Nov 26-29, 2008.

While Kasab was the sole gunman caught alive, his nine accomplices were killed in the encounter with the combined security officials.

    Abdullah, M.lore/Qatar:
Your insight on “terrorist” is very interesting at the same time confusing. As a comparison, are you trying to convince us that a killer who kills is not a killer simply because a killer who kills a small fly is also a killer ?
Is there something called a good killing and a bad killing, small killing and a big killing ? Every word Dictionary is meant to convey a certain and or specific meaning. It is not difficult to twist and turn if someone is bent upon doing it and live in a world of denials. The only problem is, in the present world of internet there are not so many takers for it.

You seem to be knowledgeable and have well narrated Ch-5-32. It would have been nice if you could enlighten us on the immediate & the following next verse number 33 in the same Chapter also please.

In the Glorious Qur’an it says

In Chapter 5, Verse 32 “That if any one killed a person (whether Muslim or Non-Muslim), unless it be for murder or for spreading corruption in the land it would be as if he has killed the whole of humanity”

We cannot kill innocent people. We are only permitted to fight in self-defense against those who fight us. Life is a scared thing and a gift. None have the right to steal it from you but Allah.

"As far as terrorist is concerned, I tell the Muslims that every Muslim should be a terrorist... What is the meaning of the word terrorist? Terrorist by definition means a person who terrorizes. When a robber sees a policeman he's terrified. So for a robber, a policeman is a terrorist. So in this context every Muslim should be a terrorist to the robber... Every Muslim should be a terrorist to each and every antisocial element. I'm aware that terrorist more commonly is used for a person who terrorizes an innocent person. In this context, no Muslim should even terrorize a single innocent human being. The Muslims should ively terrorize the antisocial element..."

I am happy at the court's judgement and believe in the justice given to any criminal should be same and fair. I would wish the court fix the date for his death sentence to be excuted on 29th November as this was the last day our security personnel had victory over these terrorist and in rememberance of all those who died

Naturally, he would laugh looking at the bunch of jokers, failing yet to execute despite blatant & merciless killing. He is a blessed soul in India. Had it been pakistan, they would have hung him in the open, the very next day.

10% of the killed should have been politican 10% of judiciary. Perhaps it would expedite the judgment!

The reason of delay in hanging is beyond my comprehension. I believe that a fast track court should decide this case and he should be hanged in public so to serve a message to the perpetrators across the boarder.

Implement the judgement. Many other cases who were villains of communal riots enjoying high political space in national and state level particulary in BJP to be uted along side. Even Congress and other party also not bo be spared for the peace of this country. This will boost the trust with the judiciary if at all to be trusted. With this Mahatmas dream India can be experienced by all civilians.

Next it will go to Supreme court, then to President of India, then few other negotiations and so on which may take another 2-3 years and cost the country several hundered crores of rupees on his security. Why can't they hang him silently and then make an announcement the way US/ Iraq did with Saddam Hussain.
