Udupi, May 30: A farewell function was held for Fr Chethan Lobo, OFM Cap who had served in Udupi diocese in various positions over the past nine years. Fr. Chethan Lobo had served as Family Commission director, Editor Uzwaad fortnightly and also as Public Relation Officer of the diocese.
He has now been transferred as director of Assisi press and Assisi studio and editor of ‘Sevak’ monthly magazine.
Udupi diocese bishop Rev Dr Jerald Isac Lobo who presided over the programme said that Fr Chetan Lobo has served most of his term in highest positions at Shivamogga and Udupi diocese even though he is a Capuchin priest.
“His service cannot be explained. He has huge patience and his service for the progress of the diocese during the last nine years was immense. He will be spending his spare time for the training of youth and children in the future also,” he said.
In his reply to the felicitation, Fr Chetan Lobo said he is identified as a Catholic priest first and secondly he is trying to be identified as a journalist. “A journalist should not be a servant of anybody and should be able to question the zigzags of the society directly. There will be no doubt that he will be a genuine journalist when he understands the problems in the society and raises questions about them,” he said.
Kallianpur Milagres Cathedral rector Fr Valerian Mendonca, Udupi district working journalist’s association president Rajesh Shetty, diocese media convener Michael Rodrigues, Big J media director Prashanth Jathanna conveyed their wishes.
Senior priest Fr Willian Martis was present. Journalist Steven Colaco welcomed and compered the programme.
